A diamond dowel sleeve is a precision injection molded plastic component used in concrete floor construction joints. It houses a diamond-shaped (square) steel load-transfer plate and lets that plate move sideways as the concrete slab shrinks, while still transferring vertical loads across the joint. The result is a stronger, longer-lasting joint that resists spalling and keeps the floor level.
The steel diamond plate is fitted into the sleeve, which is cast into one side of the joint. As adjacent slabs shrink or expand with temperature and curing, the plate slides horizontally inside the sleeve — accommodating movement — while resisting vertical differential movement between slabs. This maintains load transfer, protects joint edges and extends floor life.
